design and enterprise
§
Experienced in design and verification in ASIC and software support
environments
§
Proficient with hardware design languages, verification, ATM, Firewire,
behavioral modeling, simulation, synthesis, Perl, documentation and training development
2002-2004 Principal Engineer, Irwin Design Services
Tested and documented “formal verification” IP
components including USB, AMBA and PCI Express at Jasper Design. Created and delivered training workshop to
improve development methodology for ASIC designers at NEC in Japan, resulting
in overhaul of design methodology at 2 divisions. Extensively validated user
interface and functionality while creating user guides, on-line help and a training
class for enterprise forecasting software at Steelwedge.
2000-2002 VP Product Operations, Manugistics (Talus Solutions)
Assembled software operations group for Talus
Solutions, an established consulting company with no history of product support. Recruited 15 for support, documentation,
training, demo-development, and release management of enterprise level,
J2EE-based pricing software. Implemented
processes for successful customer communication and document management. Accurate positioning of product support capabilities
and plans was cited as contributing factor in acquisition by Manugistics in Dec2000.
1994-2000 Co-founder / Principal Engineer / President, Proxy
Modeling, Inc.
This 5 engineer company aided productivity of ASIC/FPGA
design teams and EDA software developers by providing planning, coding, verification,
support, documentation services, utilizing expertise in HDLs, synthesis,
simulation, verification, modeling, and routing. My technical projects included:
§
NEC: Developed targeted HDL based design methodology to encourage high
level design techniques. Analyzed and
critiqued existing design flow. Presented
training workshop at Shikoku and Ibaragi sites in Japan.
§
Zayante: Testbenches developed for IEEE-1394A link and phy block and
chip levels. Model development for B
version in both VHDL and Verilog. This
work was later productized by Apple as Firewire 800.
§
Boeing/Argo Systems: FPGA design and verification of re-configurable (adaptive
computing) telecom
Protocol Analyzer chipset.
§
Connectware/AMP Corp: Worked for two years with the ATM switching
system development team under direction of Dr.
Larry Roberts. Provided testbench
development, language and tool support, and model creation for 3 of 5 ASICs.
Interesting tasks included analyzing and graphing cell distribution,
arbitration fairness, policing policies and performance of various ABR
algorithms. Implemented revision control system for the design project team using
RCS and C-shell scripts.
§
UC Berkeley Extension, Cirrus, Intel, and Lucent: Created and presented
classes including “Intro to VHDL Language”, "VHDL for Synthesis
Users", and “VHDL Testbenches” to chip designers and software vendors.
1987-1994 Manager / Director / VP, Vantage
Analysis Systems
Vantage developed and marketed the first
commercially available VHDL simulator, and grew from 0 to $14M in revenue with
1500 seats in 5 years. The first tech support engineer, I slowly assembled an
outstanding customer support team, recognized by surveys as providing the
industry leading expertise for early adopter VHDL clients.
§
Delivered world
class tool & language support for clients, on-site and remotely
§
Built a team of a
dozen top notch design support engineers
§

Vantage Employee
of the Year 1991
Vantage was acquired by Viewlogic Systems Inc.,
December 1992.
1986-1987 Application Engineer / Design Center Manager, Plessey Semiconductor
ASIC Application Engineer for U.S., delivering
support, quotations, and demos. Created and delivered training courses. Promoted to USA ASIC Design Center Manager of
6 engineers, providing turnkey designs, reviews of customer designs, place &
route service, and software support.
1983-1985 Design Engineer / Section Head, Hughes Aircraft, Newport Design Center
Member of Technical Staff in nascent ASIC design and
training center. Guided 14 customer
designs from verification through route and final test. Promoted to manager of customer engineering
group, with staff of 8. Developed signoff
methodology, cell libraries, and training materials.
